Yes, I shall miss Chitanda-san domina- developing Houtarou into a better man

That was a great wrap-up from Hyouka, KyoAni! Let’s give them a hug for this series!

What can I say about the finale? It’s smooth, awe-inducing, and a little bit frustrating. It’s frustrating if you’re expecting a lot from this series or, rather, from the animation studio that produced it. But wait, you’ll have to good background of Japanese culture and language in order to comprehend this series well! I only have a little knowledge of the culture, and I am currently relearning the language; yet I was still able to appreciate them properly. The audio-visual presentation is proven to be consistently great. I would say this again — Hyouka is the first time I’ve got impressed by a Kyoto Animation work. Now, let’s go back to my thoughts of the episode. It pretty much matches the line “tale of bittersweet youth” mentioned during the preview video. Yes, this episode is filled with allegories and symbolism. It’s hard to spoil nor discuss them here any further, you’ll need to see it for yourself for you to be awed with this series.

Overall, this series is unsurprisingly deep, but it’s not flawless. It’s a great as a narrative of the lives of the members of the classic literature club, but how this series got listed as a mystery series is still a mystery after 22 episodes and an OVA. Pun intended on that one. Still, let’s give Kyoto Animation a pat on the back for this effort.
