Love triangles, human emotions, and social interactions are complex indeed, as what Kokoro Connect‘s fifth episode shows us this week. Unlike what the title suggests, though, no deaths occurred in this episode. And “death” in the title is just a metaphor for the things happened in this episode.
The drama contained here leveled-up compared to what we saw last episode. It’s still standard-fare though, as this episode dealt with love confessions by Taichi and Aoki. Poor Taichi, unable to settle his feelings for two girls, with a disturbing psychological effect on one girl to boot. I wouldn’t spoil much of the events of this episode but, yes, it was really all about the drama about conflicting human emotions and relationships. Imagine, one of Taichi’s love interests pretended being switched with one of the love interests only for it to backfire on Taichi and herself? Also, “heartseed” was quite a troll in this episode. The direction also made the episode quite thrilling by making you believe that the “pretending” was genuine and by making the heavy drama’s twists surprising. This series is another textbook case of excellent direction masking the technically typical scripts.
If you’re following the light novels, or have an idea about the volumes; you would notice that this episode marks the end of the first volume. It looks like this series would get a second season, especially with the light novels having eight total volumes already. Also, I like the end of this episode where Himeko’s domineering personality (toward Taichi) is slowly unfolded. Doujins, please take note. I want to see my femdom doujinshi based on this!
