Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse 01

You’ve seen my first impressions of Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse. Here’s now my very first episode entry of it. It’s the best impressions so far. Too bad the visuals aren’t as crisp as the competition, though as this could have been an all-segment winner.

In 1967, mankind made it’s very first contact with Extra Terrestial beings called the BETA. Mankind used all of his technology in trying to counter the BETA in the First Lunar War, and on BETA’s attempts on reaching the Earth. In the end, mankind failed in preventing the BETA reach the Earth and man’s territories went down in crumbles. Enter the life of Yui Takamura, a girl who enrolled herself in a specialised schools to later serve in the army to pilot hulking Tactical Surface Fighters in the struggle against the BETA in 1997. A year later, she found herself fighting for Japan with the BETA now creeping from the Korean Peninsula.
There had been a lot of comparison between this and Ga-Rei Zero with the narration of the apocalytic story. I see their point and quite agree with it, but I see more of Code Geass with as darker tale and twist. Instead of an empire expanding itself on Japan, it’s about humanity’s struggle of survival and existence against an enemy from outer space. There had been some fanservice scenes too, no thanks to the typical wind trying to blow-up skirts and the Evangelion-esque pilot suits. However, the story and the narration is more than enough for me to ignore all of those fanservice. The intriguing plot and events are more than enough for itself to justify why it should be on my watchlist.
