Beside telling how convenient it is for this episode to throw a flashback and its strong formula of story-telling. There’s really nothing much to say about it. If there’s by any chance that another season of Natsume get’s announce by the end of this, I would rather put in-review instead. But still, let me tell you a story…
What got me interesting is how Reiko got into this mix. But before that, we get to understand the elder exorcist of the renowned clan of exorcists. We seen her play a major role in the second season and shows occasionally somewhere near the third. She neither poses as a threat or a allies. But her story somewhat made sense on her views of the spirit realm. She’s somewhat like in Natsume’s position but rather shoved into the business end than Natsume being born with; but lacks the strength to keep the spirits in check like Reiko.
Her story of being involve in a local exorcist, or what she think he is at the beginning made her first connection to a human who shares the same fate but gets along with. But at the end where it was a spirit looking for a place to die is one of those bitter-sweet ends in this cute little story. Regardless, it’s evident that it has made an impact on her to become what she is.
Still, I like that the show is starting to uncover Nyanko’s relationship with Reiko a step further.
Overall, I like this episode. A bit convenient to fit a flashback segment around it, but it’s their style.
Episode Rating: 4/5
